The Quaid Family Session

My goodness. I can’t get enough of this beautifully-lit session of the sweetest little family!

Getting to photograph the same families over the years is one of my favorite parts of this job (I like to call them the legacy families), and the Quaid family is such a sweet example of that. I’ve had Kyle, Mary, and their little ones in front of my camera several times now, and every session feels like getting to catch up with old friends while documenting how much life has changed since the last time. And goodness, those little ones! Kids grow so quickly between sessions, and they’ve added a few sweet babies to their crew since last time. Their personalities get bigger, their relationships with each other change, and suddenly the little face you remember photographing last time looks just a little more grown up. I love being able to capture each stage as it comes, especially for families I’ve gotten to know over the years.

There is also something really special about the comfort that comes with photographing a family again and again. They already know me, the kids have seen my camera before, and we can settle into the session without feeling like strangers. It gives us room for the sweet smiles and snuggles, but also all those little interactions that make their family feel like them. Kyle and Mary have such a darling crew, and I loved getting another opportunity to have all of them together in front of my camera. These are the sessions that remind me just how quickly a collection of photographs becomes a history of a family, and I always snap a few of just mom and dad.

I’m so grateful for families like the Quaids who continue to invite me back as their kids grow. Being trusted once is wonderful. Being asked to come back and document another season is something I never take for granted.
