What You Need to be Camera-Ready

Before every session, I get a few texts that go something like this: “What should I bring? What do I need? What do I not need but will totally wish I had?”

I’ve got you.

After photographing so many amazing seniors (and being a mom myself), I’ve put together a little list of things I always recommend packing for your session. These are simple, affordable, and honestly just helpful to have on hand so you can focus on having fun and feeling like yourself. I also tend to have most of these items with me while I shoot, in case you forget anything. Whether you’re taking photos in a sun-soaked field or exploring one of Oregon’s woodsy trails, these favorites can really help you feel ready:

Blotting sheets or powder (because shine happens):

Even on cooler days in Oregon, we all get a little glow when we’re moving around, laughing, and having fun. I always recommend tossing some blotting sheets or a translucent setting powder in your bag. My go-to are the inexpensive ones on Amazon, but anything that keeps your skin feeling fresh without adding too much product works great (if you want to splurge, Fenty has a great product).

Comfy shoes (yes, really):

Listen, I love a good statement heel or a fun pair of boots, but in between shots or while we’re walking from spot to spot, you’ll want something easy to slip on and off. Think neutral-colored slides or your favorite sneakers. Trust me, your feet will thank you. Even if you don’t wear them during your session, you will love slipping into comfy shoes afterward.

A great tinted lip balm:

Oregon weather can be a little unpredictable, and dry lips always seem to sneak up at the wrong time. I love Burt’s Bees tinted balm for a little natural color, or Glossier’s Balm Dotcom if you just want moisture. Simple and effortless.

Water and a snack:

This one might sound like a mom tip since I spend pretty much all day doling out snacks to my boys, but hear me out. Sessions can last a while, especially if we’re doing multiple outfits or locations. A granola bar and a bottle of water can make a big difference in your energy, and that always shows in the photos. Just make sure it’s plain water and a snack that won’t stain or stick on your outfits.

Mini brush or comb, and some hairspray:

Wind, rain, or just a little extra movement can leave your hair in need of a quick fix. A travel-size brush or a wide-tooth comb is easy to toss in your bag and can keep everything looking smooth between shots. Hairspray or finishing spray can help if the wind creates little fly-away hairs.

If you ever feel unsure about what to bring or wear, you don’t have to guess. I’m always just a message away. Senior sessions should feel relaxed and fun, and with a few favorite things in your bag, they totally can be!
